‘Lisa’ by *konpeito-ko
When I was growing up, there was this forest and people would always call it elder claw. No one really could tell me why. The reason that I remember it is because it was pretty close to my house and it always smelt weird. There is a story that many today would tell you isn’t the case, but back then it was so prominent that you could ask anyone and they’d tell you the haunting tale. It goes a little something like this. It was a cold August evening and there was a girl named Lisa living in our town. She lived so close to the forest that it was within walking distance. She had a problem with sleep-walking. You see, she would leave her home many nights and stray deep into elder claw. She would always wake up in the same place. There was a clearing in the forest that was absolutely absent of sound. In her dream state, she would feel someone behind her, but she could never see them. It was as if whatever it was moved right out of her vision each time she tried to look. A tingling on the back of her neck, I remember this because every time I have a cold chill and that tingle at the back of my neck, I think of her. Poor Lisa. You see, after the thing taunted her again and again, people say that she went mad. She would stay in the forest all the time. People would come to try to reason with her, but she was obsessed with that evil thing. That dark demon that haunted her. When I’d hear this story, I laughed. People would always question me and I’d just tell them straight away, “What a stupid story.” They would scoff at me and tell me I’m an asshole, but what they didn’t know is buried under that tree is Lisa’s decayed body. Lisa haunts the forest. She doesn’t know that she’s dead, but in the back of her mind, she haunts herself in that dark forest. Some would ask how I know this myself. Well, I put her there and that tree grew so quickly that I’m sure the roots over time have made their way deep into her decaying corpse and have dug themselves through her sick and twisted frame. When I mentioned the chills and the tingling on the back of my neck earlier, I know that it’s Lisa. It always happens just before I murder my victims and I just noticed you’re reading my story.
